A Profile of National Shame -
The Shoshit Seva Sangh (SSS) was formed with the objective of providing quality education to the poorest of the poor. Among the vast poverty ridden population of Bihar(India) the most exploited and deprived is the Musahar (rat-eaters) community. Musahars are landless labourers who have been living in grinding poverty and sub- human conditions for centuries. Many among them are like bonded labourers living in ghettoes on the outskirts of villages.
Future-The Best Gift to a Musahar Child
-
SSS in partnership with Samadhan, a Delhi based NGO established Shoshit Samadhan Kendra (SSK), a fully free English medium residential school for musahar children. Students are provided boarding, lodging, clothes, healthcare and other necessities.
The Silent Revolution -
Having received quality education Musahar children passing out of the SSK will be in a position to make full use of reservations in institutions of higher education in the fields of Engineering, Medical, Law, Accountancy, Management, etc. The few who can’t shall be given vocational training and empowered to become self-employed and self-reliant members of society. SSK must gradually build a capacity to accommodate 1000 musahar children. Having made a quantum jump in life, they shall become inspirational role models and catalysts of change in their community. What has not happened over centuries can be achieved in a matter of a couple of decades.
